Interactive sculpture

Cathedral of Celestial Mathgic

The Cathedral of Celestial Mathgic was an interactive sculpture originally created as the cafe portal for Burning Man 2013, led by Ilya Pieper. The team received an art grant from BMorg and fundraised to complete the project and transport the piece to the Nevada desert. The piece was subsequently installed at Art Outside festival in Texas and during SXSW interactive week in 2014.The sculpture is based on George Hart’s “frabjous” - a 20 point dodecahedron that consists of thirty identical interlocking shapes to create a three dimensional structure. The interactive piece uses capacitive touch sensors to activate the steel tips of the star. Each point provides feedback to the participant by illuminating and emitting a different sound. Multiple people can interact with the piece simultaneously and create a musical rhythm.
